The Los Alamos Campground, located in the Angeles National Forest, has been closed after a ground squirrel found there tested positive for the plague. Let me say that again, it tested positive for the plague!

When we consider the dangers of heading out into the wilderness to go camping, we usually think of bears or possibly exposure to weather conditions. I don't think I've even once worried about the plague. Crazy!

Hey does that mean we can close off all the humans that fill their faces with the plague? (Botox) Most of them don't really contribute much to the community any way.

I don't see why this is such a surprise--the Bubonic Plague originated in the marmots (rodents) of Central Asia. Smallpox, Ebola, etc., exist in nature. The animals are the vectors of the disease. They just need to quarantine the area until the infected squirrels die; then, the whole situation will be over.
It is a good idea to always put a bug repellent on you when in the forest--you are more likely to get a disease by a tick or mosquito. The hysteria on this is funny--is this the new H1N1 disease that will kill us all?
